Yvetta Drayton learned to sew from her mother and grandmother more than 30 years ago.  Sewing her own clothes stimulated her technical and creative abilities.  For many years, she sewed her entire wardrobe, including lingerie and formal gowns.

After moving to Northern Virginia, Yvetta pursued her dream of making her own patterns by attending FASHION INTERNATIONAL, where she studied clothing  construction and design with Antoinette Verspoor.  In 1993, she graduated with certificates in Patternmaking and in Custom Design.   Yvetta continued sewing for herself and others—from clothes to curtains to alterations.   She especially loved using her new skills to create new designs from master patterns.

December 2005, Yvetta completed the Window Coverings Career Professional Program at the Custom Home Furnishings School in North Carolina.  And in August, she  completed the Home Sewing Association’s program and became a certified Trained Sewing Educator.

After many enjoyable years of working in the technical communications industry, and a brief hiatus from sewing, Yvetta decided to pursue another dream—to teach others the joy of sewing.   September 2006 marked the beginning of a new career and full-time commitment to teaching teens, children and adults how to create well-fitting garments and unique home décor and accessories.   

The sewing field is exploding with new fabrics, sewing machines, techniques, and embellishments!  Why sit in front of the computer screen 24/7?
